SoonerStart

What is SoonerStart? 

SoonerStart is Oklahoma’s early intervention program designed to meet the needs of families with infants or toddlers (ages birth to 3 years old) with developmental delays and/or disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infants or toddler’s learning and development through every day learning opportunities.

Transition

Preschool Transition 

Preschool transition simply refers to when a student transitions from an early intervention program such as SoonerStart, child care center, or home based care to the LEA (or school district).

Transition at the Age of 3: Steps for Success 

When your child turns three and graduates from SoonerStart, a new adventure begins. As you explore your options beyond SoonerStart, you may consider a Head Start program, a day care center, or your local school district (to name a few). We call this process transition.

HeadStart

What is Head Start? 

Head Start programs support children's growth from birth to age 5 through services that support early learning and development, health, and family well-being. The Head Start Preschool services work with families with children ages 3 to 5. While the early Head Start services work with families with children ages birth to 3, and many also serve expectant families.

How to Apply 

Talk to your local Head Start program. They’ll help you find out if your child qualifies, give you the forms you need, and tell you what documents you’ll need to submit.
