Anita is the Native American Coordinator for Oklahoma Family Network. She is a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and belongs to the Bear Clan. She is the daughter of the late Beatrice Sarkechee Bruner Harjo and Roly Harjo. She and her husband have 3 grown children & 4 grandchildren. She began her journey down the path of special health needs/disabilities in 1973 and still walks that path.
Anita assists Native American families with finding resources within their Tribes and outside of Tribes, when needed. She works to build partnerships with the Tribes and other Tribal entities to serve Tribal parents, families and communities better. She is a Family Mentor for the OK LEND Program and currently is the Tribal Ambassador for Expecting Health's Navigating Newborn Screenings and Southern Plains Tribal Health Board's Learn the Signs Act Early. She is an alumni of William & Mary Law Institute of Special Education Advocacy, Partners in Policymaking, and American Indian Chamber of Commerce of OK. Anita sat on the University of Colorado's Long Term Services & Supports Advisory to discuss LTSS in Native American communities and National Indian Coalition on Aging Advisory to update the Disabilities Toolkit
